“Asia Pacific is one of the most disaster-prone regions globally. It sits at the centre of the global protection gap and it combines high and growing climate risk, rapid development and low levels of financial protection. The region is also urbanising and expanding infrastructure at pace. Decisions are being made today that will either lock in vulnerability or resilience for decades.”
“The bottom line is that Insurance is a critical enabler (of resilience), but delivery depends on system-wide collaboration across governments, investors, and development partners.”
In this interview with Insurance Asia, Saoirse Jones, Co-Chair of the Insurance Development Forum (IDF) Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, highlights the large share of the protection gap that Asia Pacific represents- and why closing can have an outsized impact globally.
She also highlights the work the IDF is already engaged in which can benefit the region, including the Infrastructure Resilience Development Fund and its collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
From scaling parametric solutions to strengthening public-private partnerships, the focus is clear: moving from reactive response to pre-arranged, risk-informed protection that reaches those most exposed.
Because building Future Ready Nations means ensuring that when disaster strikes, support is not only available – but delivered quickly and predictably .
