The Insurance Development Forum Summit 2026 was officially opened on 10th June, 2026 by Ivo Menzinger, Chair of the IDF Operating Committee, and IDF Steering Committee Chair and Zurich Insurance Chairman Michel Liès.
IDF Steering Committee member and Lloyd’s CEO Patrick Tiernan was the Key Note Speaker.
Lloyd’s, the historic, pre-eminent insurance market is this year’s host of the Opening Reception and the IDF Summit 2026 closed-door main day.

The Summit brings together leaders from across the insurance, development and public sectors, including a large delegation of government officials from developing and emerging economies, invited by the The World Bank Group, UNDP and The Global Shield against Climate Risks, respectively.
This year’s Summit focuses on technical and dialogue-driven sessions, to foster a deeper understanding of the needs of developing and emerging economies, the solutions that the industry can offer – and how they can be best shaped together.
The motto of the Summit is clear:
Design: Effective solutions require dialogue and collaboration. Whether discussing insurable infrastructure, data-driven risk financing or resilient energy systems, sessions will reflect the importance of designing insurance programmes through dialogue between the industry, governments, funders, development and many other actors, to ensure they respond to real-world needs.
Deliver: Progress depends on implementation. Across all sessions, participants will share practical lessons from existing programmes and the needs, opportunities and barriers that countries see – and together explore how to move beyond ideas to deliver effective solutions where it matters most.
Scale: The challenges we face are shared across the world. From strengthening domestic insurance markets to expanding sovereign and humanitarian risk financing tools, discussions will focus on how successful approaches can be adapted and scaled to effectively reach more vulnerable regions.
