Marike joined the Microinsurance Center at Milliman as Deputy Managing Director in October 2022.

Marike has over 20 years of experience in insurance, with a strong focus on financial inclusion. Throughout her career she has motivated the insurance industry to implement insurance solutions that reduce vulnerability for households and businesses in developing markets and emerging economies. She has also supported institutions and jurisdictions with the design and implementation of regulatory frameworks that enhance access to insurance products for the un- and underserved.

Until recently, Marike held the position of policy advisor at the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) housed within the Bank for International Settlement (BIS), where she focused on sustainable finance and fintech issues. Marike also worked in development finance, first as Executive Director of the Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), then as Technical Director at Global Communities- a US- based NGO and most recently at the Dutch development bank FMO. She started her career at the Netherlands Central Bank (DNB) as a policy advisor for pensions and insurance, focusing on international and cross-sectoral topics.

Marike is a lawyer by training, specializing in European public law and international human rights.
