Dr Annette Detken studied economics and finance at the University of St. Gallen and NYU Stern School of Business. After her PhD studies at the University of Basel and the Study Center Gerzensee she joined the economic research department of KfW Bankengruppe in 1999.

With her experience in the development and design of new promotional instruments in the area of environmental protection and climate change as well as the evaluation of national climate mitigation programmes Annette Detken has headed different teams within the domestic as well as the international business area of KfW being in charge of designing and conceptionalizing different programmes and innovative support mechanisms. Before joining the Directorate Sector Policy and Development of KfW Development Bank Annette Detken was responsible for the aquisition team of KfW Carbon Fund managing KfW’s purchase activities related to carbon credits.

Since January 2014 she is heading the sector policy unit Financial Sector within the Directorate Sector Policy and Development. The unit is responsible for all political and strategical issues regarding KfW’s activities in financial sector development in developing countries. Since 2014 the team has played an active role in supporting the climate risk insurance initiative “InsuResilience” initiated by the German Government.
